Ukraina
The first and the most important opening of the cinema “Ukraina” took place in 1903. However it wasn’t a cinema itself, it was more of a circus arena originally named «Hippo-place».
Symbolically in due time the territory of the cinema served as an arena for many events that had changed the history of Ukraine namely electing Pavlo Skoropadsky as a getman within the circus walls in 1918. In 1964 the venue became the first wide-screen cinema in Ukraine as well as the most important one.
The cinema went through the last reincarnation in 2001. What differs “Ukraina” from other metropolitan cinemas is its technical filling. Both “Red” and “Blue” cinema rooms are provided with the latest film projector equipment – seven-channel Dolby Digital Surround Ex system operating in accordance with the acoustic requirements of «Dolby Laboratories Inc».
Its main feature is the additional surround-channel of Dolby Digital format thanks to which the sound extends more accurately (covering every seat in room) transmitting all the acoustic nuances.
”Red” and “Blue” rooms are rigged with sound panels and up-to-date pearl screens of 14.5×6, 2m and 7,7 x3,3m. Comfortable seats of Spanish «Love-seats» production have large stands for drinks and pop corn.
Outside the rooms visitors won’t get bored as well. TV monitors, video projectors, comfortable outdoors terrace, 3 bars with wide range of cinema traditional snacks and drinks will help to spend some fun time before or after screenings. The lobby is decorated in classic cinematographic style with yellow and blue sofas that will not leave anyone indifferent. The right wing of the cinema is occupied by the twenty-four-hour restaurant of French and Italian cuisine «Fellini» housing up to 120 visitors at a time. Its menu consists of a wide selection of best Italian pasta which is supported by superb wine list with classical Italian, French and Georgian wines in its disposal.
On the plus side, “Ukraina” is rated as a “premiere” cinema which means that its viewers can watch world premiers at the same time with the world audience.
With no exaggeration or flattery, “Ukraina” is one of the most popular and prestigious place of visit among residents and guests of Kiev.
